INTERALLY DIPLACED PERSONS

 

Individuals who were forced to leave their homes because of direct or indirect consequences of natural and manmade disasters but remain inside the country are called internally displaced person.  The same term is used by church community and NGO’s in describing than more than half a million families displaced in many parts of the country due to forced evacuation, armed conflict and civil strife.

 

  1. Right to be provided with Basic needs and services of an evacuation center

  2. Right to be free from maltreatment and exploitation

  3. Right to be provided with effective machineries to ensure protection

  4. Right to settlement (relocation)

 

EXISTING MEASURES PROTECTING AND PROMOTING THE RIGHTS OF INTENALLY DISPLACED PERSON

 

  1. creation of Mt. Pinatubo Commission

  2. holding summit / conference on Peace and Order to enhance criminal justice administration and value formation to reduce displacement caused by armed conflict.

  3. provision of subsidy to LGU’s by DSWD to support the needs of disaster victim

  4. rehabilitation program by NGO’s for victims of natural and man-made disasters

  5. provision of resettlement
