Senator assures public of creation of permanent infra probe body
MANILA – Senator Francis Pangilinan on Friday assured the public of the immediate passage of
the proposed measure to create an Independent People’s Commission (IPC) that will investigate anomalies in all government infrastructure projects.
Pangilinan said this would be a top priority even if the Senate is in the middle of budget deliberations, he said in a news release.
He asked President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to certify the bill as urgent.
“That's why we're committing to having this sponsored on the floor by the first week or second at the latest ... the week that we resume sa Senado (at the Senate),” he said.
He said he is ready to work with the House of Representatives for the passage of the law that will give more power to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) that is investigating the multibillion-peso flood control scandal.
Senate Bill No. 1215, which will create the IPC, is authored by Senate President Vicente Sotto III, and Senators Erwin Tulfo and Risa Hontiveros.
If passed, it will lead to the creation of a permanent and non-partisan commission to investigate all infrastructure projects by the government.
It is also a response to concerns that the ICI, which was created by an executive order, lacks the necessary power to go after those behind the corruption. (Leonel Abasola/PNA)
