PH socioeconomic agenda presented at IMF, World Bank meeting

MANILA – The Philippines’ economic managers will be presenting the Marcos administration’s 8-point socioeconomic agenda at the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) in Washington DC this week.

Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman shared photos of her attendance during the IMF WBG event together with Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Felipe Medalla, and Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez on her official Facebook page.

“We are presenting the Philippines Medium Term Fiscal Framework, 8-point socioeconomic agenda, and all our other economic plans to various groups, institutions, and even media here,” she said on her official Facebook page.

“The topics discussed are also very relevant and I am eager to apply all these learnings to our economic agenda,” she added.

The Marcos administration’s 8-point socioeconomic agenda consists of the following:

-Protect purchasing power and mitigate socioeconomic scarring -Reduce vulnerability and mitigate scarring from the Covid-19 pandemic -Ensure sound macroeconomic fundamentals -Create more jobs -Create quality jobs -Create green jobs -Uphold public order and safety, peace and security -Ensure a level playing field

Through the 8-point socioeconomic agenda, the Marcos administration aims to bring down poverty to 9 percent by the end of his six-year term and bring the Philippines to “upper-middle income” status by 2028.

It is also expected to lower by 9 percent the poverty incidence by 2028 and increase the number of middle-income Filipinos.

The government’s goal is also to increase the gross domestic product growth rate from 6.5 percent to 7.5 percent for 2022 and by 8 percent by 2028.

The IMF and World Bank Group annual meeting is held from Oct. 10 to 16, 2022. (PNA)
