PBBM reassures public of sufficient food supply, stable commodity prices


President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday assured the public of sufficient food supply and stable prices for basic necessities despite ongoing geopolitical developments, citing manufacturers’ commitment to keep food product prices stable.


President Marcos made the assurance after an inspection at the Laguna distribution center of Century Pacific Food Inc., the largest canned food manufacturer in the country.


“Ang supply ay hindi kailangan na mag-alala ang taong-bayan. Ang food supply natin ay sapat kahit na pangmatagalan,” President Marcos said in a statement during the visit to the company’s distribution center in the City of Calamba.


“At bukod pa roon ay sila naman ay pumapayag na to keep the prices na hindi tataas ang presyo hangga’t kaya nila. Kaya siguro mga isang buwan, ‘yung iba baka dalawang buwan hindi magagalaw ‘yung presyo,” the President added


The visit, President Marcos said, is aimed at ensuring sufficient supply and keeping the prices of basic necessities and commodities stable through increased government coordination with partners and suppliers.


Aside from Century Pacific, the President said other processors and suppliers made an assurance of sufficient food stocks.


President Marcos added that the government will continue to monitor the food supply and prices to ensure food sufficiency and protect the public interest amid the current challenges.


Century Pacific, which manufactures canned tuna and sardines, corned beef, and processed milk products, said it has sufficient inventory and production capacity despite global disruptions arising from ongoing geopolitical tensions.


The company noted that while geopolitical developments can create volatility in oil, shipping, and commodity costs, it successfully navigated similar disruptions in the past through disciplined planning, diversified sourcing, and strong operational execution.


Century Pacific, which maintains seven state-of-the-art manufacturing hubs, has 26 warehouses nationwide, including a Laguna distribution center with a storage capacity of 1.1 million cases (36 million cans of food). PND
