Nazareno 2026 feast in Manila draws over 1.2 million devotees

MANILA, Philippines — The number of devotees in the vicinity of Quiapo Church and along the “Traslacion” route reached over 1.2 million as of early Saturday, according to the Quiapo Church Command Post.

Around 1 million devotees have so far been monitored along the “Traslacion” route.

Meanwhile, some 260,000 are in the vicinity of Quiapo Church. This is despite the conclusion of the final Mass at 11 p.m.

As of posting time, the andas carrying the image of the Jesus Nazareno is along Arlegui St. and is slowly making its way amid a sea of devotees towards Nepomuceno St. and would still have to cross three more streets before it reaches the Minor Basilica of San Sebastian for the traditional “dungaw.”

With the enormous number of devotees who joined the Nazareno 2026 rites, this year’s “Traslacion” is shaping up to be one of the —if not the—longest yet.

By comparison, in 2025, the andas reached San Sebastian Church as early as 5:45 p.m., and took around eight hours to reach Quiapo Church at around 1:26 a.m.

The Quiapo Church Command post earlier said that it is already expecting this year’s “Traslacion” to exceed 21 hours, attributing it to the sheer number of devotees. /gsg
