Barangay official cites importance of national gov’t subsidy for LGU programs


The Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) president in Batangas City on Friday emphasized the importance of financial subsidies from the national government for programs implemented at the local level, especially in education.


In an interview with the Presidential News Desk (PND), Mike Macalalad said that the program of financial subsidies to local governments, especially during the oil crisis, would be a great help to them.


“Ang PhP100,000 para po sa scholarships, kailangan na kailangan talaga matulungan upang maiangat ang edukasyon ng mga kabataan dito sa probinsya ng Batangas at sa buong Pilipinas,” said Macalalad.


President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday led a rice and financial subsidy distribution program, during which thousands of residents received free rice, financial support, and other benefits from the government at an event in Batangas City.


President Marcos was accompanied by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto and his wife, Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto, during the activity with a theme “Sa Matatag na Batangas, Maunlad ang Bagong Pilipinas.”


During the event, President Marcos met with the Presidential Scholars, the beneficiaries of the Socio-Civic Projects Fund (SCPF).


The event was also the formal launch of the “Sa Batangas, Bawat Bayan Makikinabang” Program, held at the Batangas Province Events Center (BPEC), Brgy. Bolbok, Batangas.


A ceremonial distribution was also made at the venue, where a total of PhP200,000 for each of the 1,078 barangays will be distributed as financial assistance to the barangays. Representatives of the Barangay League from 34 towns and cities will receive the financial support.


The PhP100,000 of this would be allotted to scholarships in Batangas, or PhP20,000 for each scholar, President Marcos said.


Macalalad said the other PhP100,000 will be used to help in acquiring equipment for the barangays.


Macalalad said computer equipment and internet service are very important in their city for their communications, in order to provide services quickly and more efficiently.


“Ito po ay malaking solusyon dahil nga po nakadepende tayo sa komunikasyon,” said Macalalad.


Macalalad said that because of better communications, there could be a quick response in services. | PND
