Around 1,100 cops to be deployed on Labor Day in Manila
MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) will deploy about 1,100 cops in several areas in the capital city where most of the Labor Day demonstrations will be held. Police personnel will be dispatched in areas where protesters usually gather. These are Mendiola Peace Arch, United States Embassy, Supreme Court of the Philippines, Department of Labor and Employment main office, the vicinity of Malacañang Palace and the so-called freedom parks. Places of convergence such as Don Chino Roces Bridge and Welcome Rotonda will also have police presence. In a statement, the MPD said police officers will conduct crowd control, civil disturbance management, traffic direction, emergency preparedness and response “to ensure safety, security, peace and order in all areas of protest actions and vital installations.” Several groups are expected to hold rallies to mark Labor Day on Monday, May 1.
