11,000 cops to secure rallies on 40th People Power anniversary



MANILA, Philippines – Some 11,000 police officers will be deployed across key areas on Feb. 25 to secure prayer and indignation rallies against corruption and activities commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.


PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said in a Friday briefing that the police force is fully prepared to secure all events leading to the third Trillion Peso March and the anniversary of Edsa People Power 1.


“We want to state that the PNP is ready to maintain peace and order during the conduct of any activities on Feb. 25,” he said.

He added that the Quezon City government received a letter or memorandum dated Feb. 10 addressed to the district director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).


The letter identified the five organizations led by the Trillion Peso March and stated that they would conduct a prayer and indignation rally. /gsg, dp
